BCN empowers young people to feel comfortable to be part of the solution to address the issues affecting their communities by using their time, knowledge, skills and talent as volunteers. Under this program, the youth are empowered with different trainings which will supplement the skills their learn from school. Some of the topics to be covered are Project plan and management, Business plan, problem analysis and intervention plan, communication skills among others.
After being empowered, BCN provides space to the youth with an advanced level of
understanding in order to mobilize others in the community for joining forces and work for their community.
The area of support is identified in collaboration with community members.
In addition to the collective activity, an individual youth may be given an opportunity to serve as
volunteer between 3 to 6 months within BCN programs and at the end they get service certificate.
They are encouraged to create small groups in their
communities so that they can work and get technical and mentorship support from BCN where possible.
Volunteering is generally considered as an altruistic activity where an individual or group provides services for no financial or social gain “to benefit another person, group or organization”. Volunteering provides many benefits to both mental and physical health. Volunteering makes you happy, increases self-confidence. Volunteerism means serving in an area of need without consideration for compensation, personal preference or personal convenience. It’s easy to do good works when it comes naturally or is something you enjoy.
Volunteering is a skill-builder in many different areas, and improves your employability, knowledge and experience. Volunteering can enhance trust among diverse groups and helps build and bridge social capital. Working with people towards a common goal can help eliminate societal and cultural barriers and create cohesion.
Volunteering builds resilience and preparedness through concrete community action, enhancing knowledge and a sense of responsibility for one’s community. Volunteerism goes beyond doing something without expecting anything in return.
When a youth is equipped with essential skills, he can utilize them to feed, assist others, and even invest for future use, aiding the nation economically.
